Katy and I decided to check out the Bata Shoe Museum last Thursday as it is free on Thursday nights from 5-8pm! Obviously we had to gear ourselves up for said event due to previous museum experiences. (See previous entries)
This little excursion really doesn't need much explanation, as you will able to tell from the pictures. There was a scary lady standing behind a pile of biscuits who warned us not to take any pictures, which kind of dashed our hopes of grabbing a Canadian equivalent to a Custard Cream, so we were forced to eat (veggie) hotdogs from the hotdog seller outside afterwards. As you can see, we thoroughly disobeyed instructions, although I did keep the flash off which led to camera shake on quite a few of my pics which I since had to delete.
The highlight was the celebrity shoes; we saw shoes which belonged to Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Gene Kelly, Ginger Rogers, Eminem (although it didn't look like he had actually worn it), Shaquille O'Neal, Britney Spears, Pierce Brosnan, and Ronald McDonald
Also there was a special exhibition called Beads & Buckles which had sparkly shoes in such as Vivienne Westwood's Pirate collection, and other pretty, but modern shoes. Other exhibitions included an Eskimo (or Inuit) collection and a Native American collection.
I won't go on, as I said, the pictures speak for themselves.
On the way back home, Katy and I discovered two guys standing outside the frat house at the end of our road holding melons. We stopped to question them on said activity, and two other guys came running out of the house to stop them from talking. (It's all very secret you know)
So, on Friday night, we were at home drinking Raspberry Sours and ordering pizza. I also made a chocolate cake with marshmallows in, which we had with ice cream, mmmmmm. (This makes up for my absence from the weekly cake shop visit for the past two weeks, sorry Beth and Amy)
Anyway, after a few drinks, we decided what better way to spend the rest of the evening than gatecrashing a frat house?? Which is what we did. This has been one thing I've wanted to do for a while, and which better frat house to stop off at but Phi Kappa Pi, at the end of our road!??
The house was apparently closed for the evening when we hammered on the door complete with slice of cake in hand
The house was boarded up for the evening, apparently, due to the fact it was induction night for the new pledges. Which may explain the melon incident. Or not. The shouting was explained as "teaching them valuable lessons". Apparently, secret handshakes are 'only in the movies' and we really couldn't go in because of the induction.
So, after presenting "Cort" with his cake, watching him shake his head ("Oh God, I've told you too much...") and making him promise to let us in another time, we headed off in search of another house.
We were walking down the road when suddenly Beth stopped and shouted up to a guy leaning out of his window:
Drunken Beth: "Hey are you a frat house?"
Frat House Brandon: "yes"
Drunken Beth: "Can we come in?"
Frat House Brandon: (Confused) "are you serious??!!"
Us: "Oh yes"
Frat House Brandon: "OK!
So Brandon let us in and gave us a tour, we sat in their library and took pictures, and got Brandon to invite us to the next frat house party!! Genius! Katy managed to break a chest of drawers just by touching it, but not to matter as despite being one of the oldest houses in Toronto, the Zeta Psi inhabitants don't look after the place too well!
After saying goodbye to Brandon and the other bemused guys at Zeta Psi, we were on a roll and wanted to complete a hat trick. We knocked on the door of the next frat house we came to and asked "can we come in?" and were given a tour of the place by an extremely hesitant Nico!! We stayed and chilled for a while, marvelling at the beer funnel wrapped around the staircase, grilling frat brothers about their 'secret' induction codes and stuff,
Me: "Do you have a secret handshake?"
Nico: "No"
Me: "You do though don't you?"
Nico: "No"
Me: "Yes you do"
Nico: "No we don't"
Me: What's your secret handshake?"
Nico: "I can't tell you....ah shit."
and then Amy & Katy managed to pinch a few shot glasses!! We have been invited out next Friday to go partying - result!

. Although there was some strange shouting going on - "yes sir, no sir!" which we soon learned the meaning of. We just about to give up, when a member of the house turned up to be accosted by five British girls wanting to 'join his club'.The house was boarded up for the evening, apparently, due to the fact it was induction night for the new pledges.
