I am sitting in the internet cafe, more tired than I think I've been for the past 10 weeks, and so happy to be here in Goa, even in the pouring down monsoon rain.

The bus ride from Hospet to Ankola was fine. Comfortable, and we slept for a couple of hours each. The problem arose when we arrived in Ankola at 1.45am. We had been told by the man we bought the bus ticket from that we would arrive at 5.30am. There was no connecting bus to Goa until 6.30am. Luckily we met a nice German/Swiss couple who were in the same situation as us, and after exhausting the options (very limited as they were) we decided we had no choice but to check in to the roadside Motel, in the non-existent 'town' of Ankola. (A locked up hotel and 3 locked up shops).

The room was simply disgusting. The floor was littered with cigarette stubs, the Pillow was brown and the bedding decorated with pubes and a couple of white stains. It was no doubt the haunt of the local prositutes. We got into our sleeping bags and pulled them right over our heads so that no part of our body had to touch the minging bed. We tried to resist sleep so that we didn't accidentally turn over and make contact with the sheets, but after 20 minutes or so, fatigue prevailled and we were spark out.

6.00am came and we had a quick chai before boarding the morning bus to Goa. We travelled for 2 hours through the beautiful Goan countryside, accompanied by the sound of the rain teaming down on the windows.

We arrived at our guest house this morning at 8.30am and were told that our room won't be ready until after 12.00pm - talk about kicking a girl while she's down! So, here we are now, in the internet cafe. A safe haven from the monsoon outside. It's beautiful here, the beach is lovely, (if a little brown) and we were happy to see the Italian restaurants, and even an English themed pub on the way up the road to our hotel. It's amazing how 3 days of constant travelling and filth can change one's appreciation of some home comforts!

We are looking forward to getting an urgently needed shower, and heading off to do some tourist shopping in our waterproof ponchos, maybe even catching a film in one of the cinema-bars here, and of course getting some sound sleep.
