We booked to spend 2 nights on a boat sailing around Halong Bay.
We had both been looking forward to the trip so were a little disappointed when our bus pulled up and we were surrounded by thousands of other tourists!!!

At any one time there are 600 junk boat cruising around the bay packed with tourists! We had heard a lot of horror stories about the quality of the boats but were really pleased with our little cabin when we hoped on board. The other people on the boat were lovely and we had a few beers on the top deck enjoying the view

We visited a beautiful cave and then went Kayaking around the bay. It was beautiful.
In the evening we were served our food. We were happily chatting away when the biggest rat I have ever seen dash out of the kitchen! we all gave a yelp and then laughed. After all we were on a boat so it was probably just a one off. After a few more beers everyone headed to bed.

As soon as the lights went out we could hear rats running all over the boat. They were shrieking and screaming as the fought each other. Our air conditioning unit kept switching itself on all night. We soon realized that our ratty friends had burrowed into the walls and chewed through the wires! Needless to say we didn't get any sleep and decided to give the buffet breakfast a miss!!

The following day we were dropped off on an island and hiked up a mountain. As we reached the top the hill became vertical and eventually reached a rusty vertical staircase which had gaping holes in the railings! At that point I bailed out but Aidan carried on to the top.

At the top there was a viewing platform which clearly stated "7 people at a time". Aidan said there were at least 20 people on it and the entire platform had rusted!!!

After the hike we headed back down and spent the night in a hotel before heading back on the rat infested boat to shore. Thankfully we didn't have to sleep on it this time!!
