Set off around 10:15 am. Picked up the HF radio from Kilkenny, and then it ws time for morning tea, so popped next door to Maccas for a coffee and muffin. The trip to Port Augusta went fairly easily. We stayed at the caravan park offerring water views. And yes we had water views and even a view of the Flinders Ranges - you just had to ignore the tall wire security fence with barbed wire and the enormously long train parked on the other side of the water. Anyhow, whilst not the best caravan park we have stayed in, we settled in and cooked up a barbecue dinner just as the wind started up and the temperature plummetted. We finished our dinner and it was dark so decided it must be bedtime. Weren't we surprised when Liz checked her watch to find it was 25 to 7. Oh well!
Day 1 completed with no real issues. We were finishing the loading of the camper on Friday night - wouldn't you know it.... Adelaide has had no rain for months and just when we need to open the camper, the heavens opened! We had to brave the elements and shift all the cars so we could get the camper under the carport and in relative dryness. Bit of an issue when we discovered that the battery compartment had leaked and was a little sloshy. Dried it out and will need to track down the leak before it rains again.
