Buses worldwide have a tendancy to be rather tedious and not to be remembered happily - The journey from Krakow to Zakopane was just like this but with one exception, the views while listening to music from my ipod.

I need more vocab to explain just how scenic it was but imagine thousands of postcards from the Alps all put into a collage and you'll get the picture. It just got better and better and then we were here.

Zakopane is a ski resort normally but also for Poles on their summer hols. So there are lots of places to stay. Our little spot is just outside the main town and it's pretty cute. We didn't think this on our first day though when we arrived to blank faces and lots of rapid Polish! They evidently hadn't expected us and as a result thought we would be happy with whatever they could find us -  a very old and bumpy sofabed and tiny single which made Dean look like a giant sleeping in it!! Well I'm not one to put up and shut up so I went and found the only member of staff who has some English (in the kitchen with lots of cabbage) and explained that we had booked a double room and would not be spending our time sleeping in this room. We made our way to the boss lady who agreed to change our room the next day and to reduce the room rate for our first night - I love negotiating. The next morning we were woken to lots of hammering on our door (8.30am early for travelling types). It was the same girl from the kitchen with her laughing friend telling us that 'Miss has gone out and we have a good room for you if you move in the next 20 minutes'. Bless her she had really put herself out and got it sorted for us.
