On Tuesday we decided to go on a bit of a hike in the Bow Valley to see the Bow Falls which were really pretty. We also did a bit of the Spray River hike but after about 15 minutes along the trail (very much on our own with nothing but some water and a couple of cereal bars and bananas) the fear of cougars, wolves and big grey clouds in the distance became a bit too much of a fear factor for me and we turned around to go on a more open trail with people on! We walked past the famous Fairmont Banff Springs which is a really old building where there is a hotel right up on the mountain, before heading back down the mountain in to town.

This was all in walking distance from our house and is right by the centre of Banff. Lots of the trails were already closed due to the light snow that had already fallen and frozen, however we were pleased that we did the hike when we did as on Tuesday we got our first big lot of snow since we've been here. We met our friend Anna for a coffee mid afternoon and the snow was lightly falling but by the time we left a local pub that evening (where we had a massive plate of nachos and some dinner) we came out to find that the snow had been so heavy it was coming up to our ankles in places! The snow was so different to England as it really was like a powder that just settled on anything and everything. The snow has continued to fall on and off since and Banff looks quite different when it is all white! Very pretty and Nick is itching to get back on the mountain on his board; we hope to both go up on Sunday so I can test my skis for the first time..!
