Finally the day we have all been waiting for has come... Emily is here! She arrived safe, sound and maybe a little tired after her 28 hour trip.
As for her first day here in Taipei, we decided to give her a grand introduction and took her to one of the largest museums in the world. The National Palace Museum, holds the worlds largest collection of Chinese artifacts, over 700,000 items in all. The collection contains everything ranging from pottery and calligraphy, to swords and artwork.
TRAVEL TRIVIA: The museum has so many artifacts that it only has enough room to show a small portion at a time, cycling its displays every four months. Therefore, it would take 12 years to see every piece.
After the museum we went and sampled one of Taipei's many restaurants. Taiwanese food is an interesting blend of Thai, Chinese and other Asian influences... it's delicious.
The locals here are so friendly that we have been made to feel at home everywhere we go. Although language is sometimes a barrier, people always seem to go out of their way to try to help. They always have a big smile and are ready to help any way they can.
Right now we are enjoying the nighttime view from Marko's dad's apartment; the lights of the city are beautiful against the mountainous backdrop.
Tomorrow we are heading to Sun Moon Lake for the weekend, so look for updates on Monday!
