We split ways with the Gypsy Moth bunch when we arrived in Bocas del Toro, the other ones had booked into Aqua Lounge on Isla Carenero, that being a real party place and not having anymore doubles, we decided to stay in Bocas Town and went for the Heike Hostel recommended by an Argentinean from the Mamallena hostel in Panama City. What a mistake!!!!! Well, we did manage to get a double which was not too bad, we had a little rest since we were tired from the night bus. Before we went to rest though, one Spanish girl (Ana) came to the reception, very pissed off because she hadn't slept all night because of a group of people from the hostel having an all night party outside her window, there was a balcony just outside her room. She changed room to a dorm at the back and we went to try to get some rest. That’s when I started to get worried, the walls were paper thin and there was a lot of running around the corridor. It being a Friday night, I guessed we wouldn’t be getting much sleep if these same guests decided to party. We sat around the reception in the evening, having a beer and got chatting to a nice Greek/ Australian girl (Chloe) and a Catalan couple (Jordi and Gema), soon we realised that Chloe was in the same room as the Ana had been in last night, not a good sign. We ended up going for dinner with Chloe which was nice. On the way back to the hostel we got some beers and bumped into Jordi that was on his way back from a BBQ with the guys from the diving school that they had been doing the advanced PADI with. We sat down in the reception area and enjoyed some beers, getting worried about our probable lack of sleep for the night to come.

We were unfortunately right, however, since it was only around 11.30pm we couldn’t really start moaning….yet… at 2.00am we had had enough!! I got up and told them off, they totally ignored me saying something about it being Friday night and a hostel. The thing is, this specific hostel had to bar, nightclub or restaurant. And there are plenty close by, so there really was no clear reason why they had to hang around the hostel drinking. To save money I guess. Well, they kept running up and down the corridor and shouting like kids so Ramón got up and got really mad with a German guy. By know, Ana the Spanish girl had got up to tell them off as well. After a lot of nasty words they went out, but we knew it wouldn’t end there. It would be worse when they came back around 4.00am. This time we just ignored them knowing that they were probably really drunk by now and it would be much worse. After a lot of messing around the hostel was finally quiet around 5.00am and we’d had maybe 2 hours sleep. Well, that lasted until around 8.30am when the cleaning ladies was in full swing of getting the place tidy again. We gave up and went downstairs, well, everyone that was not in the group of party people were complaining to the receptionist, we joined in. Some checked out on the spot, we had it clear we would do the same. In the end, the receptionist got so pissed off and with the ok from her supervisor went and woke up all the trouble makers and kicked them out of the hostel. Then we felt bad, because they lost some 15 beds plus the ones that checked out because of the noise. But we were just too tired to risk not sleeping another night so we got a room at the quieter and nearby Hostal de Hansi. It was clear that the clientele was older and all the rooms are private rooms with bathroom. We checked in and went straight to bed for a few hours. Being so tired from the overnight bus journey and a night without sleep and of course it has been pouring down with rain all day, we are just exhausted. Tonight was the big party night at the Aqua Lounge where our Gypsy Moth buddies are staying but we just couldn’t get ourselves in a party mood. I am sure that if we have a good night sleep tonight we’ll be fine again in the morning. My only worry is that the weather forecasts says we’ll have more rain tomorrow so the chances of enjoying some of the local beaches are looking slim. Fingers crossed for no rain tomorrow or we’ll be heading to Costa Rica on Monday I think. Good night!!!
