Yesterday morning before leaving Salento we went to the Jesús Martín coffee shop in Salento. It is different in the way that the same company have coffe plantations where they grow and harvest the coffee, just like the Plantation House where we stayed in Salento. However it doesn´t stop there, they then roast and grind and package the coffee and you can try the finished product in the Jesús Martín coffee shop. We went on a tour of the roasting factory and then had a coffee tasting session with Mauricio, one of the guys working for Jesús. It was really interesting to see exactly what goes on before the cup of coffee is served in the coffee shop.
We decided to check out the same morning and head to Pereira to be a step closer to Medellin, unfortunately we just missed one bus and had to wait another 2 hours for the next. So we decided to have another good value lunch in El Rincon de Lucy
This morning we got up early and got the bus to Medellin, we decided not to stay in the typical backpackers area and found a brand new hostel called Urban Buddha in the area called Laureles. It cost around 10,000pesos (4eur) to get to the hostel from the South bus terminal in a taxi. We were greated by an adorable dog called "guapa" and the receptionist Germán. Turns out we are the only guests tonight and have the hostel to ourselves. We dropped our stuff and got a cab to the Zona Rosa for dinner and a beer. It cost another 10,000pesos, however we know we will sleep nice and quietly in this area compared to the hustle and bustle from the Zona Rosa. Tomorrow it is time to explore Medellin.
