Dolphins at Bunbury. Fantastic. Paddled in the sea at 9:30am while 2 dolphins came into the bay and swam around in front of us. Lovely & interesting to see how the fins differed from each other (the way people can distinguish which dolphin is which)

Bus to Pemberton. Helen dropped me at Bunbury to get the bus to Pemberton. I missed her commentary as the bus wandered along the highway. Pemberton is a small country town with not a massive amount going on but it has lots of scenic walks and things.

Gloucester tree & parrots (also scary dogs & kind Chinese tourists). The chief attraction in Pemberton is the Gloucester tree, at 61m it is used as a lookout and it is possible to climb it (up pegs driven into the trunk. I didn't! But I walked out of town at the end of the afternoon to see it. The tree was OK - tall, with some mad people climbing it. What was wonderful was the parrots which were sitting on and around two children who had brought a large amount of bird seed up to the tree. There were the ring-back "28" green parrots and some smaller red & green ones which I must look up. I held out my arms and managed to get birds sitting on each hand and arm & on my head! No photos of that pose, but I got a few of the birds sitting on my outstretched hands. Fantastic! What was less so was walking back to town to see two very large dogs wandering around on the road. My liking for furry animals does not extend to those which are big enough to do me damage (unless they are likely to run away first!) and I did not at all fancy walking past them. I flagged down the first car to pass: a people-carrier full of Chinese tourists, who kindly offered me a lift past the scary dogs & back into Pemberton. I have rarely been more grateful for a lift!!!

Now ensconsed in the YHA hostel which says it is award-winning but probably won its award a fair time ago! Still, it has a good big kitchen so I have eaten & am off to the barbecue.
