Having resisted the elephants in India and Nepal we finally gave in to the temptation and booked a day of nellie riding! It was worth every penny. The place we did it only had 4 adult elephants and one baby which meant they were well looked after and all received a lot of individual attention in comparison to some of the more touristy places you can do it. In the morning we trekked on them and visited some caves. Then in the afternoon we learnt how to command and ride them individually bare back before taking them down to the river for a bathing session. The boys who care for them clearly enjoy this part the most, leaping from elephant to elephant and flipping off them whilst the elephants spray them with water playfully. When we rode them in the water the boys would command them to shake, buck and rear until we fell off as the photos will display! It was such a special unforgettable experience and made us love them even more than we did before. It's not often you return home with clothes covered in elephant slobber!
