Flag of Lao Peoples Dem Rep  , Vientiane,
Monday, March 18, 2013

At only $5 a night and with a small breakfast included the Vientiane Backpackers Hostel seemed like the obvious place to stay in what has to be the quietest capital city we have ever encountered. It makes little Norwich seem vast! Another significant change from Vietnam is the heat which has definitely risen by at least 10 degrees. It's seriously muggy which has taken a few days to get accustomed to. We have had to stay here for rather longer than intended as we've been waiting to get our Thai visa, but in the heat our exploring pace has become considerably slower anyway so although there hasn't been a huge amount to see or do we have enjoyed taking longer over meals and having some lie ins (Not always that easy in a dorm of 12!). Tomorrow we head to Vang Vieng, the popular town for young travellers with 'tubing' as its main attraction. Definitely looking forward to cooling off in the river.
