Flag of Vietnam  , Ho Chi Minh City,
Monday, February 18, 2013

After spending the day yesterday exploring the city we decided to take a mini tour out of Ho Chi Minh to see the Mekong Delta. 2 hours later we found ourselves on a boat chugging along the Mekong river towards the 3 principal river islands where we sampled honey tea, banana wine, coconut candy (our favourite) and various bizarre exotic fruits. The islands were touristy but it was a worthwhile experience nonetheless. We got the opportunity to hold a very large but harmless snake (reluctantly on my part) and we were taken in a traditional rowing boat along an extremely narrow canal wearing the customary Vietnamese hats. It was really nice to have a break from cities and we look forward to seeing more of the Mekong river when we reach Laos.
