Arriving in Vietnam we immediately noticed the streets are busier and the landscape is greener. After a ten hour journey by bus we arrived at our homestay in the dark. It consisted of a small group of huts/shacks surrounded by a small jungle plantation and a series of waterways. The family welcomed us very fondly although their English was extremely limited. They then treated us to the most amazing feast of traditional Vietnamese food, which left us feeling extremely full and in need of a swing in a hammock to digest whilst we chatted before bed and tried to ignore the rats that kept dashing along the wooden beams above our beds! Despite the rock hard beds we all slept surprisingly well in our mosquito nets and the next morning after a quick daylight explore of our surroundings we were back on the bus again and heading towards Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City as it is now known.
