4.15am, the alarm went off. As we crawled onto the coach In the dark it was clear to see our long journey ahead to Nepal was going to be interesting. Barely able to see more than ten metres in front of me due to the thickness of the fog that had set in over night, as we left Varanasi behind there was no highway to join. Instead what resembled more of a farm tack was to be the road out of India. Neither the less our experienced Indian bus driver had clearly done the route many times before and proceeded at high speeds swerving in and out of barely visible cars coming the other way, whilst avoiding the sometimes rather large pot holes and big drops off the side of the road. Ten hours later we had India behind us leaving the hustle and bustle of city life. At last we arrived at lumbini, where we are to stay tonight. It is also the birthplace of the Buddha and before hitting our hotel for the night we went to visit this holy site and lay eyes upon the stone on which he was believed to have been born.
