We booked an extortionate shuttle with Gray Line to get to Fortuna as buses sound a nightmare and prob take a couple of days to get there. Our pick up was meant to be 6.15. Fortunately they didnt turn up until 6.45 as our passports and money were locked in the hotel safe and the owner didn´t arrive til 7am! The shuttle waited for us and we arrived several hours later at about 1300 in Fortuna. Drove through lots of jungle looking scenery and past the beautiful lake Arenal which is huge. Lots of properties for sale, tempting. It started to rain which was not a good sign and the Volcano was nowhere to be seen behind the clouds. Fortuna is a tourist town with not a lot else to see. Managed to get a cheapo room with cable tv for $15 a night and wandered around and got our needed fix of internet as was none in Playa Grande. Trying to figure out what trips to do or not here for our last few days. Whitewater rafting, jungle, etc? Want to do the volcano and baths trip but not sure we are going to see anything with the weather. Had a nice meal in a local restaurant consisting of rice, chicken, beans and tortillas and watched some odd film. Sun Up early and wandered around a few more shops but still not a lot to do so yet more internet! Hoping weather will clear up a bit if not may head to our next stop sooner and do the volcano today in the vain hope the clouds might clear for a couple of minutes so I can actually see some lava. Its my last chance. We will see............
