Got a taxi from the motorway outside the airport (is cheaper!) to La UCA (University of Central America) and then a minibus to Granada an hour and a half or so away.  Minibus spent most of its time in second gear in the slow lane hoping someone would jump out and want taking to Granada too.

Arrived by lunchtime at this lovely colonial town, possibly our last on this trip (yes I have started doing that already).  We wandered around a lot to find somewhere to stay and eventually found a place right next to the main square which was a bit pricey at $19 but inc breakfast.

Had a wander around the main square lined with beautifully coloured building (all newly painted and renovated after being plundered by the Europeans etc) which sadly look a bit too new in some ways.  The square full of people drinking in the outdoor cafes and horse and carts circleing the square with locals getting from A to B.    Went to the yellow cathedral which was bright and sparse inside and very big.

Then walked the streets, fortunately this place isnīt too big, found the market, internet (phoned home post christmas) and then sat in the main square listening to all the icecream carts ringing their bells for attention.  Had some local drinks outside cacao with milk with a cinnamonny type flavour and I had a cranberry type drink which was nice.  Town also looks lovely at night as the square and buildings are lit up.  We went to a great meat restaurant for dinner and shared a parillada with lovely beef.

Have been rethinking our New Year plans due to losing a day on Corn Islands.  Were planning on doing Ometepe which is highly rated by most people.  Feel bad but have decided not to go as not sure about transport connections etc so are going to laze by another beach instead!  Have to do Ometepe next time.
