Got a taxi to the Entrefasur (sp?) terminal for the 14-30 bus to Chiclayo further up the coast which it is easier to get to Chachapoyas (our real destination) from there for 14 Soles for the 3 hour ride. We rode through the desert and then the occasional very green cultivated bit before arriving in the town. We literally dumped our bags with Movil tours for our next bus, wandered to the main square and looked in the cathedral before dinner and then got our bus at 20.00.
Chiclayo looked ok although to be fair most tourists come here to see the archaeological sites outside of town. Our interest was sparked by the official ´King Kong´ shops everywhere. These, would you believe, sell the sweetest biscuity thing you have ever tried. There are different varieties of these biscuits with layers of condensed milk type stuff in between and whether they are natural, pineapple or other flavours. We bought a small one to try (which we did at Gocta for energy purely. Was nice but v sweet). No idea how many shops manage to make a living out of purely selling King Kong and why they are indeed called that!
This was not a normal cama or semi cama bus here which have loads of legroom etc and are pretty comfy this was a bog standard bus and was not great to sleep in. It was not aided by the showing of the film ´Romper Stomper´ (very violent and noisy if you dont know it) in Spanish. Our sleeping tablets were not that effective sadly.
