Had a lovely lie in and wandered into the town with our small amount of pesos to buy some fruit for break. Despite the relatively poor rates for changing travellers checks we did it as we had no choice in order to eat, etc. The town doesnt take long to wander around so after we had sent another parcel home and looked at the handicraft market, etc we then booked an afternoon trip to the Valle de la Luna (valley of the moon).

Booking this trip was almost an afterthought but am really glad we did. We left at about 3ish to drive out of the town westwards and saw Death Valley (although it looks more like Mars apparently), some amazing volcanoes and mountains created by tectonic plates, volcanic eruptions and the weather we were told by our guide. Then we entered the Valle de la luna park and drove around stopping at various points to walk through the crevices between the rocks and see the salt mines. It felt like walking on the moon as the surface changed from volcanic sand to crunchy salt (not that I have ever walked on the moon though). After seeing all the sights here we drove to the sunset spot where we had to walk up some dunes and then across a narrowish path at the top of the dunes to some cliffs to watch the sunset (were a bit out of breath by the end of it though!). The scenery was absolutely spectactular and so changeable. Despite the fact about 30 other people were up there too it was still magical and got some great photos too.

Getting back down was easier despite having to stop numerous times for more photos as the sky changed colour so rapidly. Marvelled at it all on our way home and all for the cost of about 3 quid for the trip!

Went for a nice meal on the main square where we were the only people and the chef seemed to be a frustrated one creating artistic masterpieces for us for about 5 quid for 3 courses - we managed to force it down somehow.
