We visited 2 wineries or bodegas, first was small and traditional and second a bit more commercial but still the labels were put on by hand. Tried Torrontes which is the famous white wine from here (brought over from Europe but all grapes were wiped out by floxia -sorry no idea how to spell that!). Wine smells sweet but tastes dry but is quite nice. Also tried our now beloved Malbec which was good too. Despite it being very cheap we resisted the urge to buy some and carry it around with us. Also tried some nice homemade goat cheese which was very welcome as we were starving by now and had tried several wines.
Back in Cafayete centre we all had a few hours spare so we went off to a restaurant in the main square and ordered some local dishes and more wine. V relaxing despite the lack of sunshine by now. After lunch went to the nearby icecreamery and got some Torrontes and Cabernet sorbet. Despite our uncertainty it was actually very nice.
Left the town at about 3 to head back up the valley stopping at other weird rock formations e.g. Titanic - cliffs literally look like a sloping, sinking ship. Arrived back in Salta about 7ish in time to get ready for our final meal here!
No prizes for guessing where we went but had our best meal yet! Think our stomachs have overdosed on red meat and wine though as have never eaten so much of it in my life. Said goodbye to our fave restaurant and headed home to pack.
