After break (which was v good) we got our stuff and headed up to the bus station to get our bus to Cidade del Este in Paraguay. There were a few guys on the bus with us who had huge empty holdalls to fill with stuff in Paraguay = or so we thought. While we werent looking for about a minute they pinched our small rucksack which had our small digital camera, ipod, hard disc with all our photos copied onto it (hopefully our Dvds we have sent home will work), books, etc and our lunch! Were very angry about it esp as the bus driver was about as much use as god knows what. Couldnt find the guys who nicked it so went to see the Federal Police who fortunately spoke English and were very good to us and took us into town to do the police report and help us out generally.

After all that were still pretty upset about it all but still sad to leave Brazil as really loved it here. Were more apprehensive about going to Paraguay but these things can happen anywhere.

Got stamped out of Brazil and walked across the Friendship Bridge to the Paraguayan side where we got stamped in. Most borders we have crossed have had computer systems to check our passports etc but they just had a pad an pen to write it down in.

Cidade del Este is a high rise bustling place but we didnt see much of it as got the bus through town to the bus station and as we arrived there was a bus leaving for Encarnacion. Were lied to by the company who said it took 3 hours to get to Encarnacion - 5 hours later we arrived! Were not v happy but just was a bad day.

Scenery was nice though reminded us of the English countryside - green rolling hills and cows. Was quite hot and sunny though!

Arrived in Encarnacion at about 19.00 in the dark without a guide book. Fortunately met a nice man at the bus station who pointed us to a good hotel (Itapua) next to the bus station and an ATM. Hotel is 40,000 Guaranis a night without brek (10,000 to the pound!). Wandered to the S6 supermarket to get some money out and bought some food for dinner etc. Was unbelievably cheap and could get nice stuff too e.g. cheese, ham, olives. Stocked up for about 4 quid. Shame we dont have cooking facilities!

Dave was quite sick the rest of the evening so just chilled out. Hopefully better tomorrow - probably the remnants of my bug plus having a horrid stressful day.
