Today up early again for our 7.30 bus to Fortaleza. First off were in a plastic seated bus along the beach and dunes down the coast via Prea (a lovely fishing village with nice beach). It was quite bumpy and on several occasions we jumped at least a foot of our seats. By this time our bums were well and truly in pain (am sure you enjoy hearing all this!!)

We got to Jijoca the big fishing town after about an hour and switched onto a comfy air con bus for the rest of the journey here. Arrived at Fortaleza at about 12.30 and left our bags at the rodoviaria (bus station) and bought our tickets to go to Recife tonight on the overnight bus (13 hours and 125 Reals each - not cheap!). Then got bus into the town here to look around the old town where there are some nice colonial buildings and a cathedral etc. There are some big beaches here and lots of high rises but we have decided to move on as we have done a lot of beaches of late. We have also been told that the city is not very safe although suspect thats true of most cities.

Should be in Recife tomorrow where we plan to stay in Olinda the UNESCO protected colonial bit........
