Am writing this well over a week after it happened so forgive my memory in parts!

Today weather bit murky but not pelting it down like it was overnight. Went to Craters of the Moon which is a free thermal site near Taupo. Was pretty impressive seeing the craters and eery smoke filling the air combined with the gorgeous smell of sulphur. Is amazing to think that the earth is boiling so close to the surface.

After that went to the nearby honey museum/shop for some tastings (ginger honey is really nice) and try some fruit wines like kiwi which was ok and better than mango we had in Laos. Then off to the nearby hydro power plant where they release the water from the dam every couple of hours which is pretty cool to see the river filling up beneath and water crashing round.

After lunch overlooking Taupo, the sun was trying to get through (has been my favourite phrase for most of our time here!) we went down to Huka Falls. These are the most photographed in NZ and are ok but certainly not as impressive as others we have seen - think they are just easier to get to!

Then headed back 'home' to our campsite to do some reading before we headed out for dinner to our other cheap find - Burger King. Can eat here for 3 quid between us after 5 (we are certainly living the high life). One of our other principals for this trip is not to eat in McDonalds (until we at least reach the US) in protest of them being everywhere (am sure it will significantly damage them seeing as we never eat there at home either) but we allow ourselves Burger King (for some unknown reason).
