Weather has cleared a bit so head back up to Picton and sit in the sunshine looking over the harbour and read more of our books. We then get to the ferry terminal for our 13.15 departure to Wellington. Quite a big ferry where we head up on deck to see us making our way out of the harbour. The passage out to the open ocean is beautiful, which is very surprising seeing as its called the Tory Channel (boom, boom!). Is not dissimilar to Milford Sound and takes about an hour to wind our way out to the sea where we leave the south island and can see the north.

After about 3 hours on board we make our way into Wellington Harbour - great views in and then drive into the capital. It is easily the busiest place we have been to in NZ and is rush hour but still feels v quiet compared to home. We continue our economy drive by going to the swimming pool here and have a shower each for $1 (mum would be so proud - not!) and then walk round town where we stumble on the library selling books for $1 each - have bought 9 business books, probably 200 quid worth for 3 quid today! Are spending the day here tomorrow to do the sights (and finish the second part of our Oz application)
