Still in Cairns!

After too much lazing around in Cairns we decided to see something of the area and go into the rainforest for the day. This basically involved getting the Kuranda scenic railway (which was just over the road from our hostel) up into the hills at a very slow pace winding through the rainforest and passed the magnificent Barron Falls. At the falls we all got off and

1 - The Scenic Railway

went up to the viewing platform to see the huge waterfall which is certainly the most amazing waterfall I have ever seen with a tremendous amount of water crashing down and forming small clouds at the bottom. The train then went up further to Kuranda village which is pretty small, and a bit touristy but we managed to find hardly anyone when we did the rainforest walk (which felt very authentic), except for the

tarmac path! and a riverside walk where we had a picnic overlooking the river. Following that we got the 'Sky rail' which is a cable car that goes back to just outside Cairns

over the rainforest canopy and you get out a couple of times on the way, once to see the Barron falls from the other side which was even more amazing and covered you in spray and then to see the tree canopy up close. All in all a great day and glad we did it. Got back home in time to make some spaghetti on toast (Heinz of course - yum!).

Got up next day and did a bit of internet on the way down to the lagoon where we sunbathed for a while and had another picnic and a swim in the lagoon. After that went back to pack and get picked up ready for our diving adventure onboard 'Taka'.
