Sorry cruel joke. Just feels like we have come home to be in Thailand since we have been here before and it is possibly the easiest SEA country to travel in. As we entered Thailand and gave our passports in we were automatically welcomed by the immigration guards and made to feel at home. I felt myself relax straight away. Dave meanwhile felt still pretty bad but wanted to just try and get to Chiang Rai so we could relax there. We got a songthaew to an ATM and then the bus station where we said goodbye to Kirsty and Hamish as Kirsty was feeling a bit ill too. Was a shame not to spend more time with them but who knows where we may catch up with them? Found the bus which was going in 5 minites - great timing and we should be in Chiang Rai by 18.00. Meanwhile I was virtually ecstatic at the sight of a 7/11 (I dont usually get so excited about globalisation of our planet -honest!) and stocked up on things we aren't sposed to eat but want.
Roads are better here and we arrive after 2 hours 15 mins (54 baht - 90p) at Chiang Rai bus station. After some haggling we get a tuk tuk out of the city - north to the YMCA as it has a swimming pool and we just want to relax tomorrow.
Arrive at the hotel which is empty - think we are the only people here and pay the exorbitant amount of 500 baht (about7.50) for double room with air con and tv. Are checked in by two young boys who speak v little English (but far more than our Thai). Think we are our entertainment for the night as they like to phone us in our room to ask us if we want dinner in neighbouring restaurant before 8pm. We force ourselves to eat dinner but Dave in particular feels rubbish. Early to bed. Woken at midnight by dastardly and mutley on reception to be told breakfast starts at 7am.
Stay in bed til late as both feel rubbish today. Risk breakfast and sleep more. Have spent most of the day on the internet but think I will risk actually using our swimming pool shortly - once the kids have got out!
Off to Bangkok tomorrow and seeing our mate Den which we are looking forward to - just hope the anti-biotics kick in!
