Windy Ridge, Mount St. Helen's, Washington
Cold, clear, windy
At Longview I crossed the Columbia River back into Oregon over the Lewis and Clark Bridge hoping to find a vantage point to photograph the huge timber mills along the river. Didn't work because there was no place to safely park that offered a suitable view.
So I continued on to Kelso, Woodland, and Cougar, then followed along the heavily forested shores of Swift Reservoir. The road climbed steadily to Elk Pass (4080 feet) at the base of Mount St. Helen's. North of Elk Pass stste road 99 follows a steep, winding route up the mountainside. It ends at Windy Ridge where I decided to spend the night.
