Take me home!
I don't have much news to report today. It was a day spent lounging around the apartment, and eating leftover pizza (I haven't been grocery shopping since I got here on Saturday, and have been living on this pizza that I ordered a couple of days ago. I'm sick of pizza as it is the only food I've had today and yesterday.)I did get out of the house for about two hours to go to a casting. The casting was actually an audition for a commercial where I have to behave as a possessed woman. Hitherto, I have been shy and awkward in front of the camera, but today I decided, what the heck, and was as possessed as I could be. This is good experience for me as it allows me to see other's auditions (you often have to perform in front of all of the other models and actresses), and I'm getting more comfortable in front of the camera.
As we were leaving the casting, we stumbled upon three puppies who were playing, happily oblivious to the circumstances of their young lives. Dogs here roam in packs, wild and hungry. Often, you see four or five lying out in the midday sun, eyes closed, covered in dust. Perhaps it is my own western culture at work here, but I feel bad for the dogs (meanwhile, they don't seem to be bothered by their condition at all, even as cars and rickshaws speed by, threatening to run them over).
I decided about a day ago that I would like to adopt one of these pups for our house. It's a ridiculous thought, and of course it would never work, but it appeals to my bored mind. It seems to me that sitting around the apartment all day wouldn't be so bad if I had a sweet puppy to play with.
On another note, I just went for a walk in my neighborhood (a dusty block with palm trees, shanty houses, and the odd bodega) and at the "pharmacy" Heida stopped to buy some Valium, no prescription required. The price? About 40 cents for 10. It's crazy, isn't it?
