The second trip is gonna take three weeks...after giving a drink for friends and colleagues on Friday April 19, it was time to leave for a longer period. So Monday morning I passed by at the testbuild Bon Jovi in Werchter to say goodbye to some colleagues and having a coffee. After that dropping my car at the office in Tildonk and Mil was taking me to the airport. Lots of luggage ( /- 65 kg, including my mountainbike).
This time I was flying to Washington and from there straight to Colorado Springs. All went well and I arrived on time. Instead of a warm welcome it was freezing and some powder snow. Casey was picking me up and dropping me off at the hotel. After checking in he drove me to the back of the hotel, passing by a Toyota 4Runner and he was able to open that car
When I woke up Tuesday there was like 2-3 cm of snow...yep, this is Colorado! I was working the whole day for the European offices (Queensday for the Dutch, Rammstein for the Germans) with a bit of catching up with the American colleagues. In the evening I kept on working... Wednesday was 50% US and 50% European. Tonight we were gonna go for 'chicken wings all you can eat' at Hooters, it was Patrick, Casey and myself. After that I had to pack for going to Baltimore on Thursday and Friday for a site advance for the NFL Kick-Off in September.
Thursday morning going to the office for a couple of hours before leaving to the airport. A first adventure, seemed like my ticket wasn't paid for, so dealing with the travel agent while my colleagues went already to the gate. I might missed my first trip, but just in time the payment was arranged and I could join my colleagues. In the evening we arrived at the hotel, then you realise that the US is big :-).
Friday in the morning I could do a tourtist walk at the harbour while the meeting was only at 10.30 am and I was still not used to American time and waking up early
We will have to build on a barge for the NFL Kick-off, building construction outside town and floating it into the harbour, will be a nice experience!
Friday we got back around 8.45 pm in Colorado Springs. The fligth from from Denver to Colorado Springs was the shortest flight I had in my whole life so far I believe. The funniest thing was that the announcement came that we were allowed to use electronical devices, 2 minutes later the announcement came that we started the landing procedure and that electronical devices had to be switched off.
From the airport we drove to the office where I was gonna pick up my bike. My colleague Keith prepared my bike for my first mountainbikeride on Saturday morning.
So saturday morning we were meeting at the parkinglot at 31st Street at the trailhead. We made a ride of 1,5 hour. Lots of people were active out there! A nice area!!!
In the afternoon I went for some 'shopping' or more looking for good shops. I visited two bikeshops and three electronical shops. The bike shop to make sure I know a place for repairing my bike when necessary and the electronical shop to look for a perfect soundsystem for playing my music once I have my appartment (all about the music)
In the evening I went to Ted's Montana Grill for my first bison steak of the trip :-).
Sunday I will go for another mountainbikeride with Keith, this time in the area around his home and afterwards ribs on the BBQ! The weather in the weekend is just fantastic...sunshine and temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.
Time flies...my first week is almost over, another 2 and I'm flying back to Europe for a couple of weeks.
That's it for now...let's see when I have some time for writing another story on the blog...
