Today when I arrived at the site there were visible signs of hope, five column bases had been revealed. The cement had dried over night so the frames were being removed and then being reattached to the other set of columns. It was great to see a real structure coming together.
The scaffolding's are also rising in height, and when the workers stand on the top they are actually at the future second floor height. It is exciting to imagine the finished project more and more each day. After the cement was poured in the base of the other five columns then the workers began constructing the supports, called tie beams, that will be an underground support connecting the columns to one another. They also worked on the steel frames for the second portion of the columns
The children continue to try to help every day, but more and more there are skinned knees and little ones falling down hard on the dirt. But they are relentless and they don't take long to get back at it. I am forced to remove myself from the interior site because I am constantly followed by many children, especially the little ones. I hurt my back on Monday though so I really should take it easy anyway.
We are moving along quickly and the children are asking more questions every day. I told them once the center in completed we will have a party, and the first question one of them asked was "will there be cake?" and the second question, "What color cake?" Such silly questions, but their curiosity and excitement is so genuine.
Thank you to all of you for helping me complete this project for the people of Cangumbang.
