Today has been quite a hot day thus far so I have been hiding out in the center for the most part, enjoying the air conditioning. However, I did have to finish collecting the blankets for the sponsored children this morning.
It is quite a process going downtown currently, as the construction on the road ways continues to expand and traffic is congested throughout the area. I can't imagine working road construction in the Philippines, it would be complete torture in my opinion. I don't think anyone could pay me enough money to work in the conditions, especially considering the limited safety requirements. None of the workers I saw wore protective clothing of any kind, except those who choose to cover their faces with scarves which is usually done to block the sun anyway. They also didn't have on protective glasses despite the bulldozer and massive hydraulic jackhammer less then 20 feet away from them. Safety regulators also don't seem to concerned of the constant flow of jeepneys and motorcycles that pass by sometimes only 5 feet away. Every time we pass I cross my fingers that a piece of concrete doesn't fly into someone's eyes. Anyone involved in regulating safety would die if they saw the conditions.
So I rode through downtown and caught another form of transport, a multicab, to a warehouse store to find the blankets. I haven't seen a store as large as Wenzhuan in the Philippines aside from a mall. It was a literal warehouse, I could have easily got lost in. But I found the blankets soon enough, and got back to Bliss way before lunch time.
Other than reporting my use of funds for the subsidy, I spent the remainder of the afternoon at the center to escape the heat and get some much needed work done on my computer. I am still feeling quite worn out from the past two busy days running all over the place, so it was a nice change.
Ate Wimwim wasn't able to completely process our paperwork at the Bureau of Internal Revenue so we will go there first thing tomorrow morning. I am hopeful that tomorrow we will have officially secured the land for the project, so we can begin moving forward with the plans next week!
