Today has been a really good day. I am pretty tired out all ready, I think I will take a nap in the AC in the center soon. Jonathan, the boy I have told you all about with ceberal palsy, had the worst and best day I have seen so far. In the morning he was in his stroller sitting in the back of the nursery. I was getting some bottles ready for the kids before they went down for their nap and most the children were in their cribs. One of the older children that were out tried to push Jonathan in his stroller, trying to be helpful like they do. Unfortunately he is just too little to do it yet and he ran into a crib which caused Jonathan's stroller to tip. Jonathan hit his head pretty hard on the tile and they both started crying immediately. I turned around when I heard crying and of course dropped everything to pick him up. Augustin, the child who had tried to push him, was crying and holding Jonathan's head trying to pick him up. It was terrible what happened but I thought it was pretty amazing how caring Augustin was trying to be at just 2 years old. Jonathan had a pretty big bump on his head but other than that I think he is okay. The house mothers didn't even notice that the incident had happened; they were too busy talking and texting in the corner. Later one of them asked if Jonathan hit his head because she saw the bump and I was kind of in disbelief at first. I wish I could just take over there job. Alot of times they leave the room and I keep all 14 children happy for the most part. Most the time the children throw more temper tantrums and act up when the house mothers are there.
Jonathan had a wonderful afternoon despite the morning's incident. I always sit with Jonathan or the really little infants while all the other children take there naps. It is a good time to give them extra attention especially because it is finally quiet. Today I sat with Jonathan just holding his hand and rubbing his head. I was talking to him some as well. He is so much more responsive then they give him credit for. He ate some while I sat with him but it takes him a long time to eat a very small amount. After he finished eating he seemed so happy. I was holding him so he could sit up and face me directly. I don't even remember what I was saying to him but he started smiling. I have never seen Jonathan smile before, from what the staff had said I thought he wasn't able to. He was so precious. He just continued to smile and open his mouth and I could tell he was really happy. It was so nice to beable to see that my time with him was making him happy. He reallly needs help more than the orphanage will ever beable to give him. I wanted to help him find an adoptive family before but after seeming him smile today I am so much more determined. Please keep him in your prayers.
