Hotel Alcatraz
Puerto San Carlos,
Baja California Sur

The weary crew crawls off the Baja bus at Ciudad Constitución just before dawn and elects to hire a taxi to Magdalena Bay rather than wait on a connection with a local bus. There is a military checkpoint on the way to the port... no shots are fired... no arrests are made.

The taxi driver takes the MEN down the one paved street in Puerto San Carlos in search of a hotel. Alcatraz is the first one spotted.... Alcatraz it shall be... a MAN decision has been made quickly.

As it turns out, Hotel Alcatraz is perfect and far beyond expectations. The MEN check in with a four-bed room at 7:30 AM and drop some baggage for the day before exploring the town for tiendas and Modeloramas.  Provisions for the next four days will be collected tomorrow morning and a panga must be hired to take the crew ten miles across Magdalena Bay where the Grace O'Malley should be waiting... or not.

Nightime finds Paul and Tom in the open air bar engaged in a game of werdball and polishing off every partial bottle of exotic spirits the bar has left. This is a Mecca for whalewatchers January through March but it's the off season now. At least five grand slam werdball homers each are racked up by Tom and Paul... elpolvo has tears flying and is laughing so hard he's unable to hold a camera all night. Captn Bla Bla is off texting somewhere. Memories stop just before Pablo Loco starts putting the charm muscles to work on the bar maid.

The best sleep and body recharge of the trip so far descends upon the crew O'Motley a half hour after the normal 10 o'clock closing time for the bar. The crew is finally persuaded to go to bed by the friendly, slightly irritated, staff.

A panga driver is found and he takes the crew to the tienda and Modelorama in his truck. They load the beer in the panga and set out across the bay to see if the Grace O'Malley still lies at anchor where she was left unattended two months prior.
