I have just had the best 2 days of my trip so far I think.
I joined the Jungle Tours trip up to Cape Tribulation which meant a very early start so that we could pack everything in during the day.
1st stop was Mossman Gorge where we had a guided walk in the rainforest before a lovely refreshing swim in the freshwater swimming hole. It was so beautiful around there and we were shown all kinds of crazy (and a couple of irritating) plants; the wait-a-while tree and the stinging tree adding to the list of dangerous and/or irritating things in Australia! We were also shown a burning bean which if you rub it against concrete and then touch something it burns it - you could never believe that something so small could generate so much heat!!
Next stop was a Croc cruise where we spent an hour travelling down the Daintree River. Luckily we managed to find 3 crocs which as it is the middle of summer was quite supprising.
We had to catch a small ferry across the river with the bus as there is no bridge. The Daintree is the larest community running solely on alternative power (solar and diesel generators) which makes it all quite expensive. The Daintree Ice Cream Company makes their own ice cream every day so you never know what flavours you are going to get. We had Passionfruit, Rasberry, Soursop (a kind of lemon, lime fizzy fruit) and another flavour which was a bit like really milky and sweet coffee... We were also made to try Green Ants which supposedly taste really sour and like lime - I passed on this though as I didn't quite trust Troy (our guide) after he burnt and blistered my hand with the bean earlier in the day!!!
2 photo opportunities later in the day from the Alexandra Range Lookout over the mouth of the river and the sea and finally by the famous dead Cassowary sign (photos up at some stage.)
The Beach House has loads of litte wooden cabins to sleep (most of them have huge spiders hanging outside the door which was really quite unpleasant - but what can you expect in the rainforest!)

I spent yesterday walking with the girls I shared my room with along one of several boardwalks and then along the beach were we picked coconuts and spent about an hour trying to get them open!! Went for a swin in another freshwater hole which was much colder but still really nice.

On the return journey we saw the endangered Cassowary which was really cool.

Anyway - sorrry for the long long essay
will write again sometime soon - maybe with photos if you are lucky!!

lots of love
