We finally made it to the US! I'll admit I was a bit paranoid about not being allowed in the country because of all the travelling we've done, but the only stamp they queried once the one from Egypt and we went there in 2003!
We hopped on a shuttle bus from LAX to our hostel in Hollywood, Orange Manor Drive Hostel, which was pretty painless. Our hostel was great, it was right off Hollywood Boulevard and smack bang in the centre of all the Oscars action. It was 9pm when we arrived at the hostel, so we just had a quick cheeseburger (flipping huge compared to Maccy Ds at home) and went to sleep. We spent the next day exploring Hollywood Boulevard and doing boring stuff like washing all our clothes that still hadn't been washed from the jungle trek! We spent hours in a vintage clothes shop which was amazing. I am not normally a fan of these sorts of places as I think they are generally overpriced and smell terrible, but this place had loads of good cheap clothes. The weather was pretty bad, quite cold and rainy, so we didn't go to check out any of the beaches, we just stayed around the Hollywood area and watched everything being set up for the Oscars. We even got interviewed for a news channel, asking if we'd come to LA especially for the Oscars. All the red carpet was already down and the massive statues were out, although everything was covered in plastic to protect it from the rain and crazed fans. We didn't check out much of the nightlife as we are saving that for Las Vegas and San Francisco, but we did find a great bar that served Guinness and of course had a drink in Hooters, where the girls are definitely not hired from their brains. Our waitress came with our beers, looked really confused, sniffed them both and said she wasn't sure which was which! We also got to watch Spurs in the UEFA cup whilst having an amazing burger. Thank god we are not staying too long, there's so many burger places and because it's the cheapest way to eat you can't help but go to them. After 3 nights in LA, it was time to head to Palm Springs.
