We arrived at our hostel La Casa Roja early and our room was lovely. There was also a table tennis table in the courtyard and I beat Elliot 6-0. We had really been looking forward to getting here as it meant meeting up with our good friends Domingo, who is from Santiago and we first met in Thailand and had last seen in Sydney. Domingo and his girlfriend Claudia came and met us from our hostel and took us out for the evening and for a great Italian dinner. It was so good to see Domingo again and to meet Claudia and we were just sorry we couldn't stay longer. We really liked Santiago though. It was the first place in ages that we didn't have to wear a coat and the centre is easy to walk around. We had a good recommendation for lunch, which is the local fish market. You walk into the centre and it is full of restaurants and cafes. We had the freshest fish and chips ever and a bottle of wine for less than 3 quid each! Elliot was also craving curry so we went to the Majestic hotel, which does a great curry!
We had booked a flight north to Arica as we didn't fancy the 30 hour bus journey, especially as we were going to get a 7 hour bus the following morning to La Paz in Bolivia. We stayed the night at a guesthouse run by a crazy man called Roberto, who was either drunk or hungover. He was very nice though.
The next morning we set off on the bus to La Paz, where we would be meeting up with Eamonn our friend from Bariloche to enjoy a lot of high altitude partying!
