Malaysia in the school holidays

After finding our amazing flight to Argentina via Malaysia and South Africa we ended up deciding to spend longer in South Africa as it meant we could do the Garden Route from Durban to Cape Town. So we headed off from Sydney on a very comfortable Malaysian Airlines flight for 5 days in Malaysia. Because our flight didn't arrive in Kuala Lumpur until 9pm and Spurs kicked off at 10pm we thought (Elliot thought) it would be best to stay at the nice airport hotel so we wouldn't have to travel far after a long flight (it's 45 mins drive to the centre of KL). This worked out wonderfully as the room was lovely and had a nice big LCD TV and they had Indian food on the room service menu.
Nice hotel + curry + resounding Spurs victory = :-)
The next morning we headed into KL to sort out transport and accommodation for the next 4 days somewhere nice. We were thinking of going to the Perhentian Islands but weren't too sure. We knew it was school holidays and it would be busy, but we didn't realise how busy. All the bus companies we tried (and we tried lots) were full for the next few days as were the trains. So we booked ourselves on a bus the next day to Penang, which looked a good place to kill a few days and spent another night in KL were we had the best (and probably most unhealthy) fried rice we've ever had - it had pork crackling in it. So we were up early to catch the 9am Snoozer bus to Penang. Before we had even left on the bus Elliot managed to pour half a bottle of vodka over himself and in his annoyance punch himself in the testicles. This mood took about an hour to lift.
The bus was very comfortable and when we arrived we checked into our hotel (Mingood - basic but clean and v. cheap) and then had a wander around. We didn't end up doing much, but hung around the malls and went to the cinema, I also had all my hair cut off (made me feel 19 again). I also spent one of the days beating Elliot at everything - air hockey, bowling (twice) and then pool! Got a bit bored in the end though, as we were getting excited about our South Africa trip. So we headed back to Kuala Lumpur for some electrical goods shopping and a foot massage, then it was time to head to South Africa! More thumbnails ...
