We left the lodge and travelled around the south side of the Canyon De Chelly. We stopped at all the overlooks for David and Ellen to take some photos. Once again we saw the ruins of the ancestral Puebloian sites inside the rock ledges. Canyon de Chelly is a beautiful place to visit, and is a sacred Navajo Reservation. This is still the home of modern day Navajos. As we stopped at the overlooks, many Navajo people were selling their merchandise. We bought some of these, and it was interesting to talk to these friendly people. We then set off for the Grand Canyon, passing through the Hopi Indian reservation. We had lunch at the Hopi Cultural Centre - the roast beef was so scrumptious!!! We arrived at the Grand Canyon and stopped at Desert Watch Tower for our first view of the Canyon. We then drove another 20 miles to our lodge, which is only several metres from the South Rim of the Canyon. After booking in and unloading the car, we set off out the back door to view the sunset across the Canyon. Unfortunately, there were clouds so the sunset was a bit disappointing, but we got the idea of how the colours of the Canyon reflect as the sun sets. We had dinner at the Bright Angel Restaurant, then headed off to bed.
