A lazy morning - had to catch up on the laundry. Ellen went visiting the Mueseum of Art and the Georgia O'Keefe research centre (O'Keefe's art gallery was closed because they are putting up a new exhibition). The rest of us walked along Canyon Road where there are lots of galleries and some restaurants. Kiara-Lee and David went home, while Trish and Ellen took a guided walking tour around downtown Santa Fe. We learnt lots about the history of Santa Fe and saw some fabulous buildings. We were very impressed with the Loretto Chapel - it was very beautiful and has a "miraculous" staircase that extends from the floor to the balcony without any support. We were also impressed with the Palace of Governors which is an original pueblo building. The indians come here each morning and a draw is made so that 70 of them can have a stall site to sell their wares (mainly jewellery) for that day. If their name isn't drawn out that day they turn up again the next day hoping to get a stall site for that day. They sell genuine indian wares - very beautiful. Tonight we walked through the Palace of Governors museum, which showed the history of Santa Fe and had lots of past relics. Dinner was at Ore House on the Plaza (we wanted to go to The Shed but it had an hour's waiting list). The meal was nice and reasonably priced. A night in at the hotel finished off the day. The girls are praying that Collingwood wins the AFL footy tonight!!!!!

ellen and the sheriff...
hey ellen, finally getting around to seeing all the photos and reading about your trip - so much travel! west coast looks gorgeous but the desert is so much more fascinating. hope sante fe and the indian reserves is all you hoped, buildings look great. and what's this about you getting a warning from the sheriff for your skimpy clothes...sorry speeding?! sounds like you're having a good time. btw, sorry but the maggies got the collywobbles in the end, dissapointing but you don't have to rush home now!

Re: ellen and the sheriff...
Thanks Phillipa. Loved Mesa Verde...we didn't had our WiFi there so have to update our blogs tonight. We're at Canyon de Chelly, so have driven through the Navajo reservation today. I can't believe we have been away for less than 3 weeks when we have done & seen so much. 10 days left until we fly home, & we still have the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Death Valley & Yosemite to go.....
