We checked out of the hotel and caught the trolley car to the farmers' market at the SF pier. We stocked up on fruit and vegies then caught the cable car up to the car hire place. We were supposed to get an intermediate car but there were none available so we got an upgrade - a Saturn Outlook SUV ( bit like a ford explorer) which was very pleasing. After picking up our luggage at the hotel we headed out of SF on Highway 1 towards Monterey. We stopped off at the Pigeon Point lighthouse near Pescadero. After lunch at Pescadero we continued down the highway. We wanted to stop at Santa Cruz to walk along the board walk (which looked awesome) but unfortunately we couldn't find a parking space for the car so we continued on. We stopped just out of Monterey to buy fresh fish for dinner. We arrived at Monterey around 5pm and checked into the International Youth hostel. A walk down to the supermarket, cooked dinner and had some quiet time before hitting the sack. The hostel was "cosy" but all we needed was somewhere to sleep. The kitchen and dining area was spacious though.
