The Journey to the most amazing places, should never be expected to be an easy one. Getting there they say is always half the adventure, and this was exactly that. For it took me a total of 4 flights, totaling almost 24 hours, with a day stop over in Bangkok to treat myself to some great street cart Pad Thai noodles, and a much needed Thai Massage. For all of you that have traveled to Thailand, know that one of the hardest parts of the journey is getting out of Narita to Bangkok on standby. With only two seats left, and traveling over with my friends Sara and Erika, my seat was the jumpseat, which amazingly is the most exciting prospect after the thought of being left behind at the gate.
After a day in Bangkok, it was off to Bali where I will be spending some time far away from reality while my friends shop for unique items for their new upcoming business. Bali is like a shoppers dream. Its like stepping into a World Market, imagining if you could only take all of these amazing treasures home and redesign your home to look like you were living in Bali year round.
Its HOT here,,,,,much hotter than Bangkok, and that's saying alot! You could feel it right when you stepped off the plane, it hits you right away. The girls from Chicago are in heaven, but it doesn't take long after having to shower twice a day to stay cool that you begin to say those words that you thought you would never say after bundling up to step outside at home....." Oh my god, its sooo hot" but we all would take this weather any day over being cold!
We are staying on the top floor of a villa outside of the busy town of Ubud, overlooking a peaceful rice field. It is seriously like living in the middle of a movie set. Its seems absolutely unreal. All of the windows open the room up like your actually staying outside. Misquito nets cover the beds, so you can  sleep with the sounds of nature without the bugs who might wander in sleeping with you as well. The Bathroom is open air, so you can take a bath and look out onto the jungle below. The scenery is breathtaking, and its hard to tear yourself away from the outside veranda which is all open air with the sounds of birds, crickets, and a flowing stream down below.
Breakfast is delivered to our deck every morning, which we pick out the night before, talk about service!
The peace and serenity of nature also includes the calling of a large Gecko which seems to be hanging out on the wall right behind where Erika was sleeping. We have yet to find that little guy and show him the way outside.
Its New Years Eve tomorrow night, and we plan to spend the evening on our deck with a couple of bottles of champagne far and the music of a famous reggae singer, Michael Franti,  who's playing a concert close by that we will be able to hear from the deck of our villa . Not a bad way to end the year.

The villa sounds amazing! I have not been in Bali since 1987, one of these days we'll make it back there. Brent and I just got back from Puerto Rico and a cruise to the eastern and southern Caribbean which was awesome.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, I am looking forward to hear more about your journey!
Happy New Year and I hope to see you soon! Iris
