The rest of the night at the Bangkok Airport just flew by! Not really, but it wasn't the worst night of my life ( sorry Sarah , I had to throw that one in....:-) I did feel that I made an incredible decision in staying there instead of heading down to Khao San Road, my usual hangout in Bangkok, when I realized that its Thai Happy New Year for three days. This Holiday is celebrated  here in Thailand my spraying water on ancestors or elders in a way of respect , sort of like a blessing. But as you all know, holidays are never quite celebrated the way they are originally started, so this custom has transformed into spraying water on everyone who walks in the streets! Especially tourists, with large squirt guns until everyone is soaked, and they love to catch you by surprise ...what fun!!! Not really.....I got the first hand report from a fellow traveler who unknowingly went out during this holiday on her first time in Bangkok, and had a terrible time, and ending up staying in her room until it was over. So after remembering the accounted detail of her experience...the Airport was great!
The Thai Airline flight attendants on my flight over were beautiful , there dresses were a beautiful shade of pink, and they had flowers in their hair, they bowed and were so gracious! Made me feel inadequate going home to my frumpy navy blue dress at United. But  I love seeing how the other airlines staff are dressed, its fun traveling on other carriers once in a while. The passengers were a combination of the resort/club crowd with their roller boards and their white linen pants, makes me even more glad that I decided to stay in small, quaint guest houses on this trip. I did see the coolest hippies coming back from bangkok with their large water guns from the Thai New Years festival , it must be a local tradition to go and reek havoc on unsuspecting tourists vacation. The hippies were the real deal, and I wish I could of been sitting closer to them to find out more of their story.Maybe they are heading up to my next destination, Ubud.
I was picked up from the airport  by a driver sent from my guest house, I flew into the only airport on the main island of Bali, Den spar. The Airport is small, and is really beautifully designed with plants and gardens and outdoor sculptures.  The first thing I noticed when i stepped outside was , WOW, its is hot guest house here in sanur has air-con, but my guest house up in Ubud, only has a fan, but I hear its cooler up there.
My guest house is called Flashbacks, and its a small place with only 7 rooms, and i have the bungalow, with a cool outdoor style stone bathroom, and lots of character. Almost everything in Bali, is open air, and they like to bring the outdoors in, its really beautiful. I went and had a traditional Balinese massage ( Maureen, you would of loved it!) very zen place, with candles and music, only $6 US dollars!
So onto the starting statement of my blog, sell, sell , sell. I was warned about all the "hawkers" here in this part of Bali, they are not as bad here as in other parts of the beach areas like Kuta, but they are still annoying. Just ignore them, everyone says, its hard when you cant walk too far with out having the latest bargain and sell being thrown at you. Things have been tough since the trouble here a few years ago, so the haggering has worsened, since tourism has slowed down. For someone like me who loves to be where others are not, my own paradise, but I know that the locals of all these wonderful places I go survive on people like me, so its a two way street. I may head up to Ubud a day earlier , I hear that things are quieter up there, and it is peace and serenity I'm seeking after all.
