I am not even sure how these these came about * but these lýmestone rocks made it easy for people to carve houses and even entire cities into the sides of hills and mountains.  Some of these pictures were taken from a 4-level underground city that was built by the Christians when they were invaded so that they could go on practicing religion w.o persecution.  We stayed in what they call a cave room * a room carved out of the side of a hill - totally Flinstones!
