Weekend advenure
Entry 11 of 14 | show all | print this entry |
Our weekend trip was really fun! It was so exhausting, but very enjoyable. Friday we jsut spent travelling. Our hotel was fantastic. It was so fancy, we were treated extremely well. The place had a pool and real showers! How fun is that? Saturday we went out for the day, we went all over the place. Our hotel was in Trichy, but the other places we went were a bit away, so we had a van cart us around. We stopped at a temple that was built 1,000 years ago, and spent quite a while admiring it. You can't wear your shoes inside, so we went walking around the place barefoot, and our poor little toes were burning like little sausages. We would race across an open courtyard to get to the next building. The place was really busy, but incredibly interesting. There was also an elephant at the entrance! A couple of people rode her for 50 rupees (~1$) but the rest of us waited, as JoAnn said we would be able to ride them at the wildlife sanctuary. How sweet! We went to a museum that used to be a fort/temple next. This place was built as a temple, but used to hide weapons (what better way to disquise weapons?). I climbed all the way to the top, in these staircases that wound up and around and up. They were short, so I had to do the limbo trying to come back down them, it was an adventure! We then went to this dam that was built in 2 ad by a king of India. It had only been slightly repaired and added onto by the british, otherwise it's all still original. How amazing is that? We saw our first monkeys there, and stayed our distance. (monkeys have all sorts of bad things they could potentially give us, so distance is our friend when it comes to monkeys). By the time we got back to the hotel, we were exhausted, so we basically collapsed into bed. The next day Dr. Kumar's uncle took us around to a village, where we wandered the fields of all kinds of cool plants. There was Jasmine plants, where you have to take your shoes off to go into the fields. They respect the jasmine plant that much. There were sesame plants, roses, tons of other flowers that I can't remember, Jack fruit trees, mango trees, all kinds! It was fun because most of the village followed us around, and would show us different plants, and we'd take lots of pictures. The kids were especially fun, they don't know what to think when you take their picture and can show it to them right away on a digital camera. Most of India has no problem staring directly at you, as white people are rare as beef here. Little kids and grown men are the worst, although I believe they have two completly different motives. Little kids are so cute, as they're too shy to do anything but stare most often. Sometimes I can get a wave in return to mine. The bus ride back on Sunday was quite a long one. It was raining and storming, so that added 2 hours onto our trip, and we didn't get home until about one Monday morning. Needless to say, I didn't get up for 5am yoga today! I was on a floater rotation today, so I went to large animal medicine, it's fast becoming my second favorite place. AI is first!Tonight we are going to a doctors house for dinner, so it should be fun. This week is going to be busy, as we have lots of things planned, but I'll try to write as often as I can. Love,Beth
