Notice the time. I am 10.5 hours ahead of you back at home, so there
is the possibility that you will read this and be transported foreward
in time. How very cool is that? I had a great day today. I
changed rotations today, and moved to large animal artificial
insemination. I got to palpate a few cows, and then I inseminated my
first water buffalo! I got it right away, so the Dr. said we were going
to celebrate. I thought he meant I had to bring something the next day,
but we just had our tea break instead, and he said that was good. The
tea here is Chai, not black tea like at home, I like it here. I also
like the coffee here, as it is a little coffee with alot of milk in it.
It's good stuff that way. After a couple of bangaladeshi students
inseminated, the Dr. would make me check them. He bet me on one of
them, 15 rupees on the fact that I was correct in checking the
placement of the gun in the uterus. I won, so I didn't have to pay. :-)After
the morning, I went on the mobile AI unit, we went on four calls
throughout Madras. It was really cool to see some of the city, and I
got the chance to inseminate some more cows. We went through part of
town where most of the houses were coconut leaves woven to make the
siding and roofing. You weave through some of these houses, to get to a
little 12by12 or some other small size plot, to find a cow just
chilling, waiting for you. The first place we went had two cows and a
calf and a turkey and some chickens there. The other places we went had
multiple cows and water buffalo, more than you would think should be
able to fit in a small area. Water buffalo are the coolest
things. Their hide is incredibly smooth and free of hair on the back
and rear. The front and side has this really thick, coarse, long hair.
Very thin, but it's really interesting looking. Needless to
say, I have been keeping busy, but I have plenty of down time at night,
to relax, and just talk to all the people on the trip. I didn't know
many of them very well before we left, so it's nice.
