It was quite hard to leave the clean nice and soft mattress's bed i got in Vientiane...but time to hit the road again Jack!!
Me Carola and Sabine started another long trip to the caves area which i have to say was quite tricky to reach due to lack of public transport and road condition! hahaha
In Vientiane we met a nice local guy that drew a useful road map for us..He said that we should have tried to reach a junction as we had to reach a junction on the main road connecting Vientiane, the capital, with Pakse, the second biggest city in Laos, and once reached the junction head east!!!ahaha
It seemed to be a little approximative, but in the end after many many hours of travel and a few break downs we got there
We spend dome time at the village observing and taking part to the rural life and the following day we finally head to those massive cave...and when i say massive believe me..it is massive!!
I have seen loads of caves during my trip but this is indeed the hugest cave i have ever seen. Me, Carola and Sabine hired a private boat that leads us through the meanders of highness and darkness.
The cave entrance was already quite big but the tunnel going through it was something that i can not easily describe it with words..!
In some parts of the cave the riverbed was quite shallow so we all had to get off the boat and walk in the dark till the next deep water point..
Once out of the cave tunnel, which was almost 8 km long, another world of bright light and matted jungle displayed to our eyes and senses..Really nice experience.
As the heat was striking quite hard we stopped along the way to have a dip into the natural pools and lakes around the cave, really atmospheric and relaxing!
Needless to say that our way back heading south was a major operation!!ahaha Getting back to the junction with another group of travellers by a shared tuk tuk and then waved to the first bus on the main road Vientiane-Pakse. Between tires punctures and the nth bus break down... indeed we spent the whole night on the bus..and got to the dusty and dirty Pakse very early in the morning...
