Sanctuary Resort and Spa
is our destination. This day should be full of travel information. For now, however, I tried and I tried to get information on the trip from San Jose to Playa Azul. To be fair, I did find shuttle service ($220 for 8), bus service to Santa Cruz and even to Nosara for +/- $5-6 for 5 hours of bus ride but no information connecting me to Playa Azul. So, I rented a car to be picked up at 0800 AM in San Jose. The plus to this, as there are two of us, is that we have much more freedom. If we took the shuttle even assuming full occupancy, it would have cost us over $110.00 RT and we'd have no flexibility. If we had to pay for the full coach (if no other riders emerged) then, of course, it would be $440 RT. As this is our first trip here, and we have limited first hand knowledge...the minus is that we could go , atleast to Nosara for less than $15 on the local buss. MORE to Follow...
And here it is!!! The Sanctuary is ISOLATED!!! I had read some travelers advisories before we arrived and they were right on
. On the other hand, with a rental car it's in a great location and at the time of year we were there, the roads were fantastic. I was looking for a bus to get us there and there is one out of Santa Cruz three times a day. But, I'm glad we had a car. We kept it for 9 days and the cost was equal to the round trip tourist bus $440. That included everything except the gas.
On one day we drove to Samara. It was an easy drive and while we did ford one major stream on the way down, on the way back we went a different way and missed it altogether. There were 5 little creeks but they didn't amount to much.
We went through Nosara, which has a brand new gas station and a heck of a nice grocery store.
