Made it to Thailand and sooo far sooo good. I can't get enough of the food. I get full plates of the best noodles in the world for like $1...can you believe that??!! I have been eating so much. People look at me in a weird way when I order about 3 servings.
So far I have been to Bangkok, Surin, and Ayutthaya. All have been fascinating experiences. In Surin I went to the Elephant Festival, which was off the hizzle. If people think that elephants are an endangered species, it's because they're all in Surin. There were something like 200-300 elephants. I got the chance to ride an elephant with my buddy Takaya from Tokyo. The festival had thousands of people. It was really crowded, but it was such a great time hanging out with locals. Fun times!
Bangkok is really another big city, but has something special about it. I really can't put my finger on what it is, but it has it's own unique quality. And the Tuk Tuks are freaking fun to ride. It can be scary when you have a crazy driver. It is an experience you have to try out if you are here. There are so many Wat in such close proximity from one another. I took the liberty of venturing into several of them. All extremely fascinating areas to explore.
Ayutthaya has probably been the most fun so far. This use to be the old Thai capitol from 1380-1767 (give or take a year) and has sooooo many old ruins. The movie Kickboxer was filmed there. We rented some bikes and roamed around town for a few hours. Got lost for a bit, but got the opportunity to discover some of the real local areas. Really fun.
Check out the picks and tell me what you think. I will be in contact. Next stop will be Pattaya where I will hopefully have the opportunity to volunteer at an orphanage for a bit. Should be interesting. I miss you all back home, so let me know how things are going. Your comments make writing these entries all worth while...thank you.
