A beautiful day. I woke up this moning surrounded by snow-capped mountains and it has been the same all day. Most of the morning we could see Nanga Parbat (8,125m) - it makes for a stunning view and my first sighting of a Himalayan mountain. We also reached a point where you could see three different mountain ranges: the Karakoram, Hindu Kush and Himalaya ranges. It's also the point where the Indus and Gilgit rivers meet.

At lunch time we reached Chalt, Dost Dar's (my guide) home. I had lunch with his wife, elder sister and numerous children. Three of the children were Dost Dar's, the rest were nephews and neices. It was lovely having lunch with them, even if we couldn't communicate. my jaw ached from smiling so much - what else is there to do??!

Their house was set amongst fruit and nut trees and potato fields. The children seemed happy, healthy and very grubby. After lunch we travelled further up the valley until we reached Minapin at the base of Mt Rakaposhi (7,790m).
