Bratislava is only an hour from Vienna by train, so we took a day trip on Sunday. I'm sure that many of you have no idea where Bratislava is, or if you do, if you're anything like me, your knowledge of it is based only on the movies Eurotrip and Hostel
I would suggest a day trip to Bratislava to anybody planning to spend a week or more in Vienna. You need only about 6 hours to see most of the sights and get a good meal. The free walking tour in Bratislava is probably the best that I've ever been on. We took a tram up the mountain to see the castle, but I've heard it's a pretty easy hike if you don't have a problem with walking.
We also had one of my favorite European dishes ever. It's called Halusky and it is the national dish of Slovakia. It is basically potato gnocchi smothered in sheep's cheese and topped with crumbled bacon. I'm not kidding. It was like magical mac and cheese prepared by angels. Do not miss out on Halusky if you go to Bratislava!
School starts Monday!
